Inspired by time spent travelling in Sri Lanka earlier this year, this painting reflects the warmth, colour and generosity of the communities I encountered. Lunches and dinners were often around shared tables, where food of such flavour and colour was passed freely and conversation flowed easily between locals and travellers.
I wanted to capture the vibrancy of the country through colour and pattern, allowing the richness of the setting to echo the warmth of the people. Many of the places we stayed offered card and board games, small moments of play that brought everyone together and created an atmosphere of ease and connection
This period of travel felt particularly light and carefree, moving through each day without urgency, it was guided by curiosity, play, sunshine and shared meals. this painting celebrates hospitality, community and the simple joy of gathering around food with others.
