A Warm European Lunch
Original oil and acrylic on canvas with oil pastel, professionally mounted within a maple wood frame, ready to hang. The frame is included as part of the finished artwork.
This painting is part of the Brighter Days Are Coming series, launching in partnership with Glassette. In this piece, I wanted to capture one of my happiest memories of European summer lunches, long tables in the sun, Aperols and wine flowing, and simple salads and fresh fish enjoyed slowly in the late summer heat of the day.
The work is inspired by time spent in Cyprus, a place I have returned to for the past three summers. Each late summer we stay with a friend on his family’s farm, where a group gathers for the week and, through shared meals and bottles of wine, strangers become friends. Days unfold gently, shaped by sunshine, conversation and the rhythm of eating and drinking together.
I loved building this piece through layers of colour and pattern, allowing the table to feel vibrant and alive. I played with the movement of the figures so the scene feels full of conversation and energy, while the sweetness of the cat adds a playful tenderness and sense of warmth.
For me, this painting holds the feeling of summer holiday freedom, no worries, no deadlines, no stress, just sunshine, good food, flowing wine and the comfort of friendship. The piece aims to celebrate connection, slow living and the simple happiness of sharing a table together.
Dimensions 58.5×45.5cm.
